SWAMI VIVEKANANDA
Come up, O lions, and shake off the delusion that you are sheep; you are souls immortal, spirits free, blest and eternal; ye are not matter, ye are not bodies; matter is your servant, not you the servant of matter.

Radom blog 2. RESERVATION IN IITS

Of late there has been much hullabaloo over reservation in IITs.
The issue also landed up in our common lounge ( home to lukkha wingmates)
As the discussion became fiercer , I found myself getting engrossed into it.
I felt as if they are not as bad as has been projected in the media.
Though they are a reason to worry for the medics, but for iits , it should not be any cause of worry.
I fail to understand why the media is projecting it as if some calamity has befallen us.
Watching the 24*7 news channels makes me feel that.
I feel that what we see is the fury of the elite class, like a delhi mom cribbing over denial of his daughter's admission in a high repute institution because of reservation. What we dont see is the rock bottom - the landless farmer, the rickshaw wala , the unemployed.. What a biased sample size??
Go to them and ask what they have plans for their child. They would never have thought of . Because these live on a daily basis. They would want their child to do something which enables them to give them livelihood. NO GREAT PLANS, NO COUNSELING , NOTHING! And usually these jobs happen to be the same one that they are doing and like this the vicious circle goes on. Now for them , if a person of their community goes to iit , and comes out earning 50K a month, it would be like their ultimate fantasy. But that inspiration can come only when they see that their wards can also go to elite institutions. And their is when reservations help .
Encourage the poor to educate their children so that their children can also clear JEE and have control over their destiny . If IITs will not help in this task of nation building then who will?
IITs , i am sure, can handle this enormous intake of underperformers. this is because they are well equipped with great faculty, great facilities and comprehensive curriculum having practical significance.
People say quality of IIT will be diluted. They fear repute of IIT is at stake.
I think differently. These children are not of low iq. Its only because that they didnt get the kind of primary education we get. But even then they made it .It shows they are determined and willing to learn. So why not toil a little hard on them for nation's sake.
Repute of IITs goes only higher if they can show their commitment to the national upliftment task.

People are questioning the motives of govt in doing this. Clearly this is vote bank politics. But whats wrong with that. If some good thing is happening because of electoral motives , we shouldn't complain about that. Ofcourse, first strengthening up our primary school system and making the directive principle of free education to all a right would have better.

But all things in life are not perfect, are they?
If can help our masses by sacrificing a bit of our rights,is it too much to ask for??

A RANDOM BLOG ----IIT A Year later

IIT is a queer thing.. a year has passed and it looks pretty much new to me.
I still feel pretty much lies unexplored at IIT ..
life passes so quickly here. so much to do , so much things to explore , that u never find the time to take rest and wonder- what keeps it going? why is iit as it is?

like everyone i came here with some dreams i had been dreaming of since 2 yrs..i thought that everything would be right here - great profs ,interesting courses, high tech facilities ,innovations happening round the clock. and on the top of it,i would get a high perk on getting out..

not all the dreams have kept true . its not that they should ought to have. but frankly my perceptions have changed now. i have been taught here that greatness lies not in not committing any mistakes but from learning from them .
iit's greatness lies in the fact that it is always ready for a change. It goes to the highest extent possible to serve students' interests- be it funding for cult and tech events, building of new infrastructure or the new flexible course curriculum.Even the extra maggi served and longer library timings during exams serve testimony to this fact.the pace with which a better thing is put in place is just mindblggling. its ability to blend according to the present scenario has taught me another great lesson of life. its not rigid -but flexible giving students the thing they aspire most for - freedom
We can do whatever we feel like . We always know someone up is there to help u in case u need something.that is why loads and loads of things keep going around here in iit.

IITs face fund crunch . I could feel it. Being forced to live in double room , taught in class of 500 students, finding only one computer in hostel computer room, waiting for a turn to play in the only badminton court ...these things irked me. i felt as THIS ISNT THE IIT I DREAMED OF ..but perspective has changed now.. now i see the other side too - i see the constant ,ever increasing efforts of iit in getting funds, its desperate attempts at organising alumni , coaxing the govt to shell out more. iit is not letting itself become a victim of the changed scenario and die a silent death but is trying to deal with the new circumstances in the most efficient way .it is fighting , it is the srk of chakdeindia in the real sense .

As another year beckons, i see myself moving ahead towards a clearer path of life. i feel lot many crazy things- i feel enlightened ,i feel the true sense of pride in being an iitian.
Thank you PT. NEHRU for creating IITs.
